MCN Food Drive a Resounding Success, Serving 140 Native Families
OKMULGEE, OK — MCN Public Health, a division of the Muscogee Nation Department of Health in partnership with the College of the Muscogee Nation and the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, is excited to share the success of its recent holiday food drive. Thanks to the generosity of MCN Health staff and members of surrounding communities, 140 Native families across the Muscogee Reservation were provided with vital food assistance this holiday season.
Over the past several weeks, food donation boxes were placed at MCN Health locations, the College of the Muscogee Nation, and the Muscogee Nation Solomon McCombs Building. These collection points quickly filled with nonperishable food donations, a testament of the strong ties to community in the Muscogee culture. Additionally, the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma played a critical role, providing necessary resources and structure to enhance the initiative.
“On behalf of MCN Health, I want to thank everyone who contributed to this effort,” said Abbi Lee, Director of Public Health. “These donations have made a real, tangible impact on the lives of those in need and we are grateful for the generous contributions from our staff, community members, and partners. We also appreciate the support of the College of the Muscogee Nation and the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma for their essential roles.”
The donations were distributed to Native families across the reservation on Thursday, December 19, just in time for Christmas.
“The holidays are when families come together, and culturally food is such an important part of that,” said Chris Azbell, Extension Coordinator at CMN. “Addressing food insecurity is crucial, especially at this time of year, so everyone has the opportunity to share a meal with their loved ones.”
