Digestive Health & Colorectal Cancer Screening

At MCN Health Gastroenterology, we provide evaluation, diagnosis and treatment for conditions affecting the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, liver, pancreas and gallbladder.

Our team works with patients to address digestive health concerns, manage ongoing conditions and provide important preventive screenings, including colorectal cancer screening.

Screening Saves Lives

Colorectal cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the United States, but when found early, it is also one of the most treatable.

Adults at average risk should begin colorectal cancer screening at age 45. Screening can help find colorectal cancer early and may also help prevent cancer by finding and removing precancerous polyps.

You may need to begin screening earlier if you have:

  • A first-degree relative with colorectal cancer or advanced polyps
  • A personal history of colon polyps or colorectal cancer
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Lynch syndrome
  • Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP)
  • Prior abdominal or pelvic radiation

Talk with your healthcare provider about your individual risk and when screening is right for you.

Know the Symptoms

Colorectal cancer may have no symptoms in its early stages, which is why routine screening is important even if you feel well.

Talk with your healthcare provider if you experience:

  • Blood in your stool
  • Persistent abdominal pain
  • Changes in bowel habits lasting more than 2-3 weeks
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Persistent fatigue
  • New pencil-thin stools
