Healthy Communities Start Here

Health Nurses play a vital role in promoting the overall health and well-being of our people. With a foundation rooted in compassion, cultural understanding, and clinical expertise, PHNs serve as essential links between healthcare systems and the communities they serve. The primary focus of PHNs is education and prevention. They work to inform the public about current health risks, prevent the spread of illness, and foster healthier communities through direct engagement, advocacy, and awareness.

Their responsibilities span a wide range of preventative and outreach-based services tailored to meet the unique needs of our tribal communities. Throughout the year, PHNs coordinate and administer mobile flu vaccine clinics across the Reservation, breaking down barriers to access and protecting vulnerable populations. They provide basic first aid coverage during the Muscogee Nation Festival, serve as on-site medical staff at children’s summer camps, and are present at various tribal gatherings, ensuring that culturally appropriate healthcare is always within reach.

In addition, PHNs conduct routine blood pressure screenings, offer immunizations at community resource fairs, and collaborate with other health departments to provide up-to-date health education materials. They play an instrumental role in emergency preparedness and response, offering trusted guidance and care during public health crises. Their commitment goes beyond clinical duties—they build trust, empower individuals to take charge of their health, and advocate for policies that promote equity and wellness across generations.

Through their tireless efforts, Public Health Nurses embody the spirit of service, bringing healthcare to the heart of our Nation.
