Muscogee Nation Opens Healing & Recovery Center
New residential program expands access to substance-use treatment
MUSKOGEE, OK — The Muscogee Nation Department of Health officially opened the Muscogee Healing & Recovery Center, bringing residential treatment and recovery services closer to home.
The center represents a nearly $27 million investment and includes more than 34,000 square feet of residential and treatment space on approximately 27 acres.
The facility includes 15 private rooms for men and 13 private rooms for women, each with a private bathroom. Residents also have access to kitchenettes, hydration stations and separate exercise rooms featuring state-of-the-art interactive equipment.
“For the first time, we have a place of our own where we can provide this level of treatment to our own people,” said Shawn Terry, Secretary of Health. “Some of our patients have previously had to travel as far as California to receive this type of care. Today, we are bringing that care home.”
Residents will participate in both individual and group therapy and have access to garden spaces, fishing in the campus ponds and a teaching kitchen. Guest cooks will work with residents and share healthy and traditional recipes.
The center was designed specifically for the Muscogee people, with Muscogee language, artwork and cultural imagery incorporated throughout the facility.
“When our people are at their most vulnerable, they should not have to leave behind who they are in order to receive help,” said Shawn Terry, Secretary of Health.
While the ribbon cutting celebrated the opening of the center’s new residential treatment program, the Muscogee Healing & Recovery Center has already been serving patients through its outpatient programs. These services include outpatient substance-use treatment, behavioral health counseling and MAT/TOR services, which provide medication-assisted treatment, referrals, education, overdose prevention resources and other support for individuals and families affected by substance use.
The Muscogee Healing & Recovery Center will focus on helping residents build healthier routines, strengthen relationships and develop the skills needed to support long-term recovery.
